Review: Nestle NAN H.A Gold Step 1

NAN H.A. 1 Gold is a premium specially treated (partially hydrolysed) starter infant formula that is easy to digest. NAN H.A. 1 Gold helps to support your infant’s digestive and immune systems. NAN H.A. 1 Gold contains Bifidus BL, a beneficial (probiotic) bacteria for healthy infants from birth. For hygiene and convenience, it is available in an innovative packaging format with a seperate storage area for the scoop.

NAN H.A. 1 Gold should not be used if an infant has a diagnosed cow’s milk allergy.

My Review: * Warning! This is a very negative post based on my experience
Pros: Cheaper compared to others

Cons:
  • Baby's poop had a dark green shade which smelt so disgustingly bad
  • There are lots of articles on-line that parents reported that it made their babies sick.
Overall: Nan Pro 1 was the first formula milk my baby drank. I ran out of it and accidentally bought this thinking it was the same. On the first month I was told by my doctor that it was okay to experiment on formulas, seeing which is most suitable for my baby. This NAN H.A. was a regret! I kept thinking it was normal till I changed and never looked back. Never will i recommend this to anyone! I am just thankful that my baby did not get sick so bad.

Rating: 0/5

Tips: For the first month, try different formulas from sample packs given by the hospital or local supermarkets. Do not just rely on reviews of other people because You will never know what is suitable for your baby till you try it.

Will I repurchase: No! Please NO!

Recommended age: 0+

Price: Less than SGD $50

Advice: Formula Bottle-Feeding

Equipment for Formula Bottle Feeding
  1. Bottle - Clear measurements, Wide neck so its easy to clean
  2. Teats - Choose the one that is similar to the breast specially if you have transitioned from breast feeding to bottle feeding
  3. Thermos - To keep warm water specially if you will be outdoors. Giving boiled cool water is a must.
  4. Steriliser - Cleaning bottles and teat thoroughly to avoid bacteria
  5. Powder Container - To store formula for night feeding or if you are outdoor
  6. Bottle cleanser- Gentle and anti-bac to clean equipment efficiently
Top 10 tips for Formula Bottle Feeding
  1. Read cues to know when baby is hungry to avoid fussing. Try keeping a schedule of every 3-4 hours by noting down every feed so that you will know the pattern of your baby's feeding habits.
  2. Babies might pause for a nap and feed again. If this happens, encourage him to finish his milk by undressing him a little, tickling his feet or chin, burping him or changing his diaper.
  3. Keep the teat full of milk so baby wouldn't swallow air. this can lead to stomach problems specially if babies is colic.
  4. Having a 1 hour rule of finishing the milk is best to keep bacteria away. Throw unused milk after each feed or it had reach an hour to avoid giving your baby spoiled milk
  5. Go with the flow! Start by following the instructions written at the back of the formula can. However, babies differ in how often they want to feed or how much milk they want to take. Do not force them to finish their milk if they reject it.
  6. Burping your baby in the middle of the feed might be necessary but most importantly, burp your baby after each feed to avoid reflux.
  7. Is your baby constipated? Add an ounce of water to your baby's feed if your baby is constipated. It might help reduce heatiness.
  8. The consistency of your baby's poop is more important than color or smell. It must be something like peanut butter. Talk to your GP if poop is different than normal
  9. For the first month, try different teats or bottles to see which is most suitable for your baby.
  10. To know whether the teat works for your baby, feeding usually takes no longer than 15 minutes if fed continuously without stopping. If it takes longer, try changing the teats because it might not be suitable for your baby. Most importantly, your baby must be gaining weight.

Review: Avent Feeding Bottle Classic

Good Feeding, Good Sleeping
Helps settle your baby, especially at night. Fussing is by far the most commonly known crying behaviour in babies. The Philips Avent Advanced classic feeding bottle significantly reduces colic and fussing. Fussing is reduced specially at night.

My Review:
Pros:

  • Measurements are shown clearly
  • Anti-colic
  • Wide neck could easily be cleaned
  • Bpa-free
Cons:
  • It leaks!
  • The nipple is hard/tough
Overall:
The two cons already gave me such a headache, I had to buy new ones. It leaks so bad that my baby's shirt is already drenched by the time i know it. The nipple is so hard that he rejects his milk. luckily the pigeon nipples are able to replace them. But since it was a present, I didn't mind changing the nipples. At least now he drinks his milk.

Rating: 2/5

Tips: Look for the most suitable nipple for your baby. For the first month you're bottle feeding, buy different ones to see which one your baby prefers. Take note of the nipple size as well so that your baby wouldn't fuss when feeding. I recommend to get the taller bottles as well so that you can use it longer.

Recommended age: 0+

Review: Pigeon Liquid Cleanser

The PIGEON Bottle Nipple & Vegetable Liquid Cleanser is the ultimate natural cleanser and is essential for baby's health. Tried and tested by mothers all over the world, it has proven to be highly effective in killing bacteria found in milk. Made from 100% food grade ingredients, it is safe and effective for cleaning baby accessories, such as bottles, nipples, pacifiers and toys, and is even suitable for  washing fruit and vegetables.

Excellent Cleanser with Anti-Bacterial Features
It is not adequate to wash the nursing bottle with water alone. Made from edible carbohydrate delivatives, PIGEON Liquid Cleanser is suitable for washing the nursing bottle because it is able to remove fats and proteins, which causes dirt. PIGEON Liquid Cleanser is a much stronger wash than regular detergent commonly found in kitchens.

Safe for Fruits and Vegetables
Apart from keeping baby's toys and accessories clean, the cleanser can be used to wash fresh produce as well. Made from edible carbohydrate derivatives, the cleanser is great for keeping baby's accessories squeaky clean and is safe for fruits and veggies as well. It is recommended to wash fruits and vegetables before consumption while pregnant because it effectively sterilizes the fresh produce by removing agricultural chemicals.
Gentle on Skin
There is no need to worry about dry skin as the cleanser foams lightly and rinses off easily, and works to protect the skin.

Sizes Available: 200ml ,450ml, 700ml, 700ml(refill)

My Review:
Pros:
  • Gentle on skin
  • A little goes a long way
  • Effective cleaning
  • Takes out the smell of milk from the bottles
  • Washes all baby items for meal time even fruits and vegies
  • Smell is not overwhelming
  • Anti-Bac
Cons: None
Overall: A "must buy" item in our grocery list! I'm doing the washing for all Baby yo's feeding items, so I know that a little goes a long way. I always make sure that I wash his bottles squeaky clean because I'm very scared of a bacteria illness that Baby yo might get. This is great for that because my mind is at ease that "Kills 99.9% of Bacteria" is said on the bottle.

Rating: 4/5

Tips: Washing baby's items with water alone is not enough at all, There are always bacteria everywhere and if you're gonna wash it, it means that the baby might put it in his mouth so always remember to add on that liquid cleanser. You should not forget that the average dishwasher cleanser is not suitable for babies and should invest on cleansers safe for babies with anti-bac properties.

Will I repurchase?: Yes
